The mound where the carriage was found is adjacent to the well-known Mound of Bulgarian Khan Imurtag, where the same team discovered a hoard of gold last year.

Experts believe the recently discovered chariot was placed in a narrow hole with a sloping side, allowing the decorated horses to pull it into its final resting place. Afterward, the horses were killed, as indicated by the small metal disks on their heads, suggesting they wore harnesses.
